I turn 80 next birthday…
When you get to this vantage point, you stop looking at "trends." You start looking at patterns. You see decades of people who had talent, ambition, and drive—yet still didn’t quite get there.
And you see the rare few who did.
I’ve realised the difference usually comes down to two small words. The successful ones eliminate them. The others live by them.
Those words are: "Sort of." Or “Kind of’.
Most people sort of want to change. They kind of want to lead the market. They have a vague ambition to be better.
But the universe doesn’t respond to vague requests. It responds to Precision.
The Myth of "More Effort" We are taught that if we are failing, we need to work harder and smarter.
I have found this to be false, because smarter is rarely defined.
Success isn't about the volume of effort; or vaguely ‘smarter’.
It is about the precision of the aim.
· A laser cuts through steel not because it has more energy than a lightbulb, but because that energy is focused on a single, precise point.
· A business dominates not because it does everything, but because it does one thing with terrifying accuracy.
The Daily Fight The problem is that the world is designed to make you vague. Distractions, emails, notifications—they all blunt your edge. You start the morning sharp and end it dull.
I realised I needed a way to reset that focus every single time I looked up from my desk.
A Tool for Precision I didn't want a "motivational poster" with a cat climbing up the outside of a skyscraper, or any of the so called motivational images I come across.
I wanted a visual trigger and a powerful reminder that speed is nothing without direction.
That is why I designed the "Precision" piece.
